General Curriculum

Preschool Standards Quarter 2

All previous standards plus the following:

General Curriculum

  • Recognize upper and lower letters at random
  • Identify sounds of letters in alphabet
  • Uses correct verb tense when speaking
  • Recall facts from a book with detail
  • Begin to identify structures of a story (characters, setting, beginning, middle, end)
  • Counts 1-30 by rote
  • Recognize 1-20 at random
  • Begin writing numbers 1-20
  • Identify important American Symbols and statues
  • Identify ways to care for the earth

Art History

  • Generate ideas and images for artwork based on memory, imagination, and experiences
  • Know that works of art express an idea
  • Demonstrate knowledge of colors and color mixing
  • Identify artwork in a variety of styles
  • Recognize similarities and differences in works of art from a variety of sources
  • Use a variety of art products and tools
  • Experiences art that has been created for specific purposes
  • Identify art belonging to specific artists, places, and cultures

Spanish

  • Follow two step directions given in Spanish

  • Uses yesterday, today, tomorrow appropriately
  • Know the months of the year
  • Identifies basic needs of living things
  • Identifies characteristics of plants and animals
  • Understands and differentiates between animal habitats

Art History

  • Describe where artwork is displayed in school and other places
  • Use specific elements of art and principles of design to communicate an idea
  • Know that art subject matter can be imaginary or real
  • Create works that express feelings, moods, emotions, and personality
  • Develop artistic skills through repeated use of tools, processes, and media
  • Explore the placement of the structural elements of art in personal works of art

Spanish

  • Understands letter/ sound correlation
  • Recognize vowels
  • Use today, yesterday, and tomorrow appropriately
  • Recognize opposites
  • Compare and contrast between objects (bigger/ smaller; faster/slower)

  • Create free form dances, using manipulatives, which are personally pleasing and show exploration and imagination

  • Understand the Summer Olympic Games, History, Events, Ceremonies, and Traditions.
  • Introduce students to all 26 sports
  • Understand the ceremonial procedures (opening and closing)
  • Introduction to Track & Field events, rules and regulations including: Running Relays; Long Jump; High Jump; Marathon Mile
  • Introduction to Basketball rules and regulations including: Dribble; Shoot; Bounce pass; Teamwork; Positions

Preschool Standards Quarter 4

  • Begin writing words phonetically
  • Count by 5s
  • Recognize numbers 1-50
  • Understand calendar concepts

Art History

  • Describe art from selected cultures and places
  • Identify vocabulary that is used in visual art
  • Experiment with art processes and media to express ideas
  • Create works of art to tell a personal story
  • Create artwork that communicates an awareness of self
  • Assess one’s own artistic work, using critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills

Spanish

  • Count to 100 by rote
  • Identify art, holidays, and culture of Spanish Speaking countries
  • Use simple phrases to respond to questions
  • Act out simple plays with speaking parts in Spanish

Music & Drama

  • Understand the use of music in daily life
  • Identify various sounds in a piece of music
  • Identify, visually and aurally, pitched and unpitched classroom instruments
  • Perform simple songs and accompaniment
  • Express preferences from among a teacher selected set of musical pieces and dances
